| Off to the magistrate. |
[Jan. 5th, 2010|09:44 pm] |
I got a speeding ticket that was far enough over the speed limit that I'm going before the magistrate later this month. It's my first offense, first time doing this sort of thing ever (and let's hope last).
Any tips, experiences? Most of the people I know don't seem to want to discuss their brushes with the magistrate. While I'm sure they won't be a horrible creature of Lovecraftian horror, I'm getting unpleasant vibes about this. |

| Any Baseball fans? |
[Jan. 5th, 2010|09:31 pm] |
Hello everyone..
My fiance and I are setting up a mini cross country road trip this summer to hit as many baseball parks as possible, one of our stops is PNC Park, I was curious as to what the best and easiest way to park is or whether public transportation is the best route. Also if you do use public transportation, what time do buses? subway? whatever stop just in case extra innings or what not.
Also where are the best places to stay in town, location wise? where to avoid? anything else you think would be good to know?
Thanks so much. Tobey |

I started my new 2010 planner! It's a red twin set, so it comes with stickers and a separate blank notebook. They're normally $20 but I used my extra employee discount at work the day after Thanksgiving and got it for $10.

Jimmy came home on the 3rd. He gave me two of my presents - Zelda: Spirit Tracks (yes!!!) and The Encyclopedia of Serial Killers. We played with his new Holga instant back and colorsplash flash last night and got this...

| Alterations in the South Hills |
[Jan. 5th, 2010|05:21 pm] |
So I was paroozing the tags and couldn't find what I needed so if someone knows where to find this if it was previously posted I'd be muy gracious...
Otherwise, I am looking for a place to take up a few skirts that happen to be too long. I live in Bethel Park so anywhere in the immediate vicinity of the South Hills would be great. Some place that will take the measurements and everything without me having to do so prior is necessary. Thanks in advance!! |

| Ski boots for sale! |
[Jan. 5th, 2010|03:39 pm] |
I bought these last year: Tecnica Attiva v80's in a size 25.5 (good for women's 8-9 size shoe) and I wore them once during a ski weekend with my husband up at Holiday Resort. I cannot use them this year since I'm currently 7 1/2 months pregnant, and I honestly don't see myself skiing for awhile. I'm asking for $325 OBO (they were about $420 brand new last winter). Respond here on the list if you're interested and a way that I can reach you with more details. I live in Evans City (near Cranberry Township) and work downtown. They are very very comfy!

Haven't been online in a little while. It's been nice. However, after a little thought & reading a good christmas present, I have made some New Year's Resolutions.
My resolution should really be to start an exercising routine, but that's just wishful thinking haha. My real resolution is to write more. Doesn't have to be in this outdated and forgotten lj, but to generally vent. To say how I feel and express the things going on in my head, no matter how crazy. I should have more time to do this as school is no longer in the way for (hopefully) about five or six months. I think it'll be a good thing.
A reason I haven't been writing in here lately is because there really wasn't much to say. While nothing is ever perfect, it's pretty close right now. I've been so blessed in every area of my life.
Well, except for all of this snow. It's made me want to move south & say crazy things like "y'all." But nothing's perfect. :) |

| best place to return videogames, sans receipt? |
[Jan. 4th, 2010|01:14 pm] |
Happy new year everyone! Like a lot of folks, I have some presents to get rid of...among them an unopened Playstation game. Obviously game stores are right out, as well as most electronics stores for their insistence on paperwork. Does anyone know of someplace in Pittsburgh that will take back a (sealed, unopened) videogame for full credit? I wouldn't expect cash, but some credit would be nice.
If not, I'll just sell it as used to The Exchange, but I figured I'd ask first. Solid information only please, if I wanted to bother calling places or driving around guessing I wouldn't be asking here. No need to tell me where it's "likely" they'll accept a return. |

| 2am movie reviews |
[Jan. 4th, 2010|02:41 am] |
I was going to write up my super deep thoughts on Sherlock Holmes in hella classy bullet points because I can't sleep, but instead I'm just gonna say two things: one, I vehemently agree with most of what robowolf said re: moderate character assassination on Irene's part (er, spoilers in that link).
AND TWO, holy shit I just realized why that movie made me feel so weird. The directorial style gave me that same kind of hectic disjointed feeling as The Brothers Grimm, which was such a profoundly unpleasant experience that reliving it makes me nervous and a little queasy. This feeling has somehow managed to overshadow most of the rest of the movie, to the point where intellectually I realize that I enjoyed the punching and homosexuality (ha ha, my tastes are so classy!) but I can't actually remember anything besides how clunky and awkward and manic the whole thing felt.
Overall: it was fun, and I'm glad I watched it! I don't think it was a good movie, although I did enjoy it. But then I'm the sort of person who enjoyed Van Helsing -- which this movie is a lot like in many ways, most of which involve various authors spinning in their grave and also explosions -- so, you know, my taste is really not good. I can accept this.
SO... I GUESS IF YOU LIKE EXPLOSIONS, PUNCHING, GRATUITOUS SUBTEXT, AND GETTING HEADACHES, THIS MOVIE IS FOR YOU?
Although as bastardizations of Sherlock Holmes go, I vastly prefer The Great Mouse Detective.
Also, I'm ready for Hollywood to stop making every single movie over two hours long. WHEN DID THAT START BEING OKAY, GUYS? SERIOUSLY?! I enjoy long movies sometimes, but really, someone needs to tell directors that just because you can make a really long movie doesn't mean you should. Please, epic responsibly. Tell me I'm not the only one with this problem.
SOB I SHOULD BE SLEEPING |

DUSTY CAME HOME!!!
(Old picture from 2003, but you get the point.) My mom got a call from a neighbor last night who said she had seen Dusty in her front yard. My family walked down there and saw a kitty dart into the bushes. They couldn't get her to come out. But this morning my mom walked into our back yard and Dusty was sitting by the food dish!!! Mom says she's skinny and one of her paws is scratched. Right now Derek's holding her in a ball of blankets. AWWW. She was gone for almost exactly a full month. We are all so happy she's back. |

| CSA/Farmshares in Pittsburgh |
[Jan. 3rd, 2010|11:19 am] |
For those that aren't familiar with community supported agriculture (CSA farms), it's an arrangement where you pay a farmer ahead of time, and get a percentage of their produce once a week for 20-30 weeks throughout the year. Some include eggs, meat, milk, or cheeses as options. Some also have winter shares. They often deliver to dozens of neighborhoods in the city already.
If you eat a lot of vegetables, it's often less expensive, as local as it gets, and organic, if you choose a CSA that grows organically. CSAs vary in price, and a few ask that you pay more or spend a weekend helping out on the farm to keep prices lower. Whereas the prices are often cheaper, they're not cheap; you need to pay for several months of vegetables at one time, usually. Local Harvest lists thousands of these nationwide, as does Buy Local PA.
Anyways, for those familiar with CSAs in Pittsburgh, I'm trying to choose one, but don't know the quality of the produce or the size of a share. If folks could help me narrow it down, much appreciated. Alphabetically, the three with pickups near me (East End) are Harvest Valley, Kretschmann Farm, and Penn's Corner. Doesn't appear any of the three do winter shares, which would also be useful. I recall at least two friends recommending Kretschmann, so I think that's the default so far.
Also recommended is Dillner Family Farm and Isadore Foods, and I've also found One Woman Farm. |
